European Jeweler & Goldsmith’s creativity and love of their art ensures tender loving care from the choice of a unique gift, to repairing a damaged heirloom, to modernizing an older piece, and creating a piece to replace a lost item. We spoke with Marketing Manager, Mari Fletcher, to find out what they’re up to after 20 years of being part of the Carmel community.

 

How has Covid impacted EJ & Goldsmith? 

Though we are still busy in store, we are only allowing two clients in at a time in order to follow safety measures and do our part to beat Covid-19. By having only a few clients in the store simultaneously we have had the opportunity to work with our clients one on one and give them even more specialized attention than we have in the past. Our biggest change is our customers can now shop online and we are able to connect with our clients all over the United States more so than ever before. 

 

Do you get many estate pieces for resale from the community? 

Yes, we get lots of pieces for re-sale and consignment pieces from estate sales. We love finding our consignment pieces new homes. 

 

Do you do a lot of custom work? What pieces are most requested? 

Yes, we do LOTS of custom work. We specialize in custom wedding rings and bands as well as taking pieces and transforming them into new beautiful pieces for our clients. Many of our clients grandkids will come in with their grandmothers rings and we will use their existing piece to make something amazing. This allows the client to keep the sentimental value of the piece and keep costs down. We also repair necklaces, earrings, pendants, and if you lose an earring we can happily make you a second! 

 

What’s a recent commission you created? 

Whale Tail Pearl Ring, Mother’s ring turned into a gorgeous pendant, Byzantine Ring redesign, custom made cross. 

 

What’s the most important thing people can do to care for their jewelry? 

The most important thing you can do to care for your jewelry is clean it regularly, make sure the stones and gems are attached, and to take it off when you are rough on your hands or even at home. Also, please come in regularly for a more thorough inspection. We are always happy to help you! 

 

Any advice for people navigating this crazy time in our lives? 

Focus on all the positive blessings around you. If you need cheering up, stop by our store and treat yourself to a gift. If you don’t want to come in-store, be sure to check out our website to shop for new items! We hope everyone stays happy and healthy. 

 

How are you keeping yourself sane over the past few months? 

We are keeping ourselves sane by working in a jewelry store surrounded by hundreds of beautiful pieces and being able to interact with our loving clients (safely of course). 

 

How long have you been at the Crossroads? What inspired you to open the store? 

We have been in the Crossroads for 20 years. Adriana was inspired to open the store because of her love for jewelry. In opening the store, she was able to share her love for jewelry with her clients and develop deep friendships that has led her to be successful today. 

 

What’s your favorite spot (other than your own)? 

We love all of our neighbors, but our favorite spot is Sweet Reba’s. They are such sweet people and make the most delicious treats. We are so grateful they’ve been open during the pandemic to lift our spirits, but add inches to our waistbands. 

 

What do you love about Carmel? 

We all love being so close to the ocean and the tranquility of Carmel. We love the people and the charm of a small town. 

 

Anything you’d like to share? 

For our locals, we always offer discounts. We will always do our best to find our clients the very best prices. We also offer no interest split payments, so we will make it work for everyone especially during this hard time.

Gold is extremely high right now (highest it’s been in 10 years) and is an excellent time to sell!
